Concrete-Look Bathroom Tile in Cumberland

Modern bathroom with large-format gray concrete-look wall tiles and wall-hung toilet in a Cumberland area home

About This Project

This Cumberland area bathroom used a large-format gray concrete-look porcelain tile on both walls and floor, creating a minimalist space that reads as a single continuous surface. The 24x48 wall tile was installed vertically to emphasize ceiling height in the compact bathroom, and the floor tile was set in a matching 12x24 format to maintain the visual rhythm without excessive cuts.

The wall-hung toilet in this space required careful planning around the in-wall carrier frame. The tile had to be set around the frame with precise cuts at the flush plate opening, and the grout joint alignment had to be maintained through that interruption. We templated the carrier frame location before setting tile so the cuts were made to exact dimensions rather than trimmed in place.

The white floating vanity and recessed storage unit were installed after tile was complete. Coordinating the sequence with the installer was important so the tile terminated cleanly under the vanity without exposed edges.

What We Did

  1. Templated in-wall carrier frame location; planned tile layout around it
  2. Applied waterproofing membrane to wet-area walls; installed backer board throughout
  3. Set 24x48 wall tile vertically and 12x24 floor tile; cut precisely around carrier frame
  4. Grouted with gray sanded grout; caulked all plane changes and around carrier frame
