Townhome Bathroom Remodel in Cumberland

Warm beige large-format bathroom tile with gold rain shower head and LED ceiling lighting in a Cumberland townhome

About This Project

This Cumberland townhome bathroom received a full tile renovation using a warm beige large-format porcelain on both walls and floor. The 24x48 wall tile and 24x24 floor tile share the same base material and finish, creating a seamless visual continuity across surfaces. The gold rain shower head and LED cove lighting were installed by others; our scope covered all tile work from demo through final grout seal.

The townhome's concrete slab construction meant we needed to check moisture vapor emission before setting tile adhesive. We used a calcium chloride test and found the reading within acceptable range, so we proceeded with a standard modified thin-set. The wall tile required a continuous waterproof membrane behind the shower walls, including a separate membrane treatment at the curb-to-floor junction where water concentrates during use.

The LED cove detail at the ceiling required careful tile termination at the top edge. We used a Schluter Jolly trim profile to finish the wall tile edge cleanly without a grout line at the top.

What We Did

  1. Demo existing tile; moisture-tested concrete slab; replaced damaged backer board
  2. Applied liquid waterproofing membrane to shower walls and pan; fabric-reinforced corners
  3. Set 24x48 wall tile and 24x24 floor tile; installed Schluter Jolly trim at top edge
  4. Grouted with warm beige sanded grout; sealed all grout and applied caulk at plane changes
